Searching For Death Notices Through Online

By Claire Dowell

The Freedom of Information Act has been implemented in the state of Colorado. This has allowed the residents of the state to access their personal files including Colorado death records. With this, it is a lot easier to get a copy of the said file especially in times of emotional instability.

The death of an individual is an emotional event that needs to be documented completely. With proper documentation, a death certificate of the deceased individual would contain important details about the death of an individual. This includes the complete name of the person who died as well as details such as when and where the person died. One would also know the cause of the death of the deceased individual. Other personal information such as the address of residency and the immediate relatives of the individual are also indicated on the file.

Death records are requested in Colorado to conduct genealogy research. The document has information that is used in updating the information on the family tree. Some transactions in the government will not be processed without the death certificate of the deceased. This is true when the immediate relatives of the deceased would request to claim the benefits of the insurance of the deceased individual. The widow would not be able to marry again if the death certificate of the late partner is not presented when applying for marriage.

There are several places to go to when planning to know about the death of an individual who resides in Colorado. The state library has archives of newspaper collection which has the obituary notices where one can individual check them out. However, this method may take a while and can be very tedious. This is only applicable if one only wants to know about the death of an individual since the certified document cannot be obtained from this method.

A certified copy of a death certificate can be obtained from the office of the Vital Records Section in Colorado. The retrieval of the document would only cost $20 per copy. The said office only releases records that have been registered since 1900. If one needs to get records that have been registered before the year 1900, one has to check with the office of the county clerk where the person died and the death has been registered.

Retrieval of a death record has been made easier with the help of the Internet. Now public death notices are not only found on newspapers but also published online. A certified copy of a death certificate can also be obtained from several websites. This is a lot convenient compared to getting the document at the office.
