Fire Department Training Ideas That Work

By Juana Buchanan

Being a firefighter is a very tough job that would require a lot of training. If one would want to become a fireman, then not only must he be physically fit, but he also has to be physically strong, mentally alert, mobile, and very agile in order to handle emergency situations. It is for this reason that the veteran firefighters must always think of good fire department training ideas so that they can train the newbies to become the next batch of heroes.

As stated above, a firefighter has to be physically fit and physically strong in order to handle the job. He has to be fit because he must have the stamina to run around and he also has to be strong so that he can lift certain objects to save people in burning houses. It is because of this that the first part of any training session would be the full body workout.

Once the newbies have already gotten used to that kind of workout routine, then the seniors will now be teaching them all about the gear and the uniform. It is very important to take note that if one is a firefighter, he has to put on his uniform really fast. The reason for doing so is that when the firefighters would hear the alarm, they could just slip on to their gear and go to the fire.

Now once they have already put on their uniforms, they next thing they should do is learn to get themselves and their equipment ready. The trainers will actually time them when it comes to how long they slide down the pole and get the equipment all set. This is also very essential because in a real situation, firefighters must act fast.

Now with regard to the equipment, they have to pay particular attention to the hose as this is one of the most crucial ones. Now when it comes to the hose, they have to learn how to attach two lines of the hose together and place it on the water source. Do take note that this whole process will also be timed.

After the seniors have already gotten the newbies accustomed to these types of exercises, then the seniors will try to take them by surprise. They will do this by performing fire drills which will make the newbies think that there is an actual fire. From there, the seniors will test how the newbies would really react in a situation.

After a few drills, they will then be exposed to an actual situation. The seniors will arrange for the newcomers to have a fire simulation to give them a taste of what handling a real fire is like. This is for the seniors to see if the newbies are actually ready to face actual fires or emergencies.

Now for the actual simulation, the newcomers will be performing the entire process of getting ready to actually putting out the fire. Basically, when the alarm goes off, they will put on their uniforms, get their equipment ready, and drive off to the site given to them. From there, they will practice putting out a fire.
