Learn How To Make A Homemade Glass Cleaner That Performs Great

By Cathy Short

Finding innovative ways to clean your home can help you save a lot of money. It is also a great way to do something good for the natural environment. One great way to start is by developing your own homemade glass cleaner. This will allow you to give your windows and mirrors a streak-free shine without using any harmful chemicals.

Using organic cleaners can provide an array of additional benefits as well. These are not going to harm the quality of your indoor air. Using store-bought cleaners in sealed areas can sometimes cause the indoor environment to become toxic. This can be really problematic for people who have respiratory ailments that are chronic.

Cleaning with vinegar is inexpensive and easy. Simply mix water and white vinegar in equal amounts and then add this to a spray bottle. You can use this same solution for a long while as it will remain potent even after having been stored. Spray it right onto the glass surfaces that you are cleaning and then use a clean towel to wipe them dry.

To get an incredible finish, try using old newspaper to dry your windows after having sprayed these with the vinegar and water mixture. Paper towels leave small debris behind but these will not. It is also important to note that the ink on these sheets and even the type of paper that they are printed on will assist in removing dirt, oil and other things from the surfaces that you address. This will also make it easier to use fewer paper towels and you can get additional use from your newspapers before recycling them.

Some people do not find the scent of white vinegar pleasing. They can instead use an organic dish soap to wash down their windows. Not only will this prove capable of lifting off stubborn dirt and grime, but it will also leave a clear surface. Simply use newspaper during your final dry in order to ensure that no streaks appear. If you do not read the newspaper or simply don't have any on hand, use an old t-shirt instead. This is a great way to get a final use out of old, worn clothing, rather than placing it into the trash so that it can be placed in the landfill. Simply put old, unwanted clothes in a small box for rags and pull them out when you need them.

A lot of the natural cleaners that work good on windows are going to perform just as well on other surfaces throughout the home. This means that you can use these as multi-surface sprays. For surfaces that are not made of glass you can even add a few drops of tea tree oil for its disinfecting properties.

When creating a cleaner of your own, however, there are a few things that you should keep in mind. It is first important to avoid placing these solutions in containers that have already held hazardous chemicals. You should instead purchase an empty spray bottle and use it only for this purpose.

Labeling your solutions is vital as well. It will be easier to discern which one is your window cleaner if you have made other natural solutions for cleaning. These products should also be dated, especially if they contain ingredients that have a limited shelf life.
