By Essie Osborn

Many people especially from developing nations are always looking to immigrate overseas for greener pastures. Greener pastures in this case might be seeking a stable and well paying job or simply looking for asylum in cases of political and social refuges. Whatever the reason, Canada is one of the destinations many immigrants are always looking to immigrate to.

But before one can be allowed to get into another country, the individual must fulfill certain requirements. A lot of people want to know Canadian immigration requirements to assess themselves if they meet the requirements and start the application process or work harder in order to meet all of the requirements before applying.

Among the many requirements of getting into Canada is a visa. This is a document allowing one to get into the country legally. It can be a permanent work or temporary work visa, student or business visa among other types. If a person has skills in a particular area or is in a profession desired by the country, he or she can be awarded any of the work type visas.

It is one thing to be in a profession desired by the country at a particular time. But a person ought to have the necessary skills and experience in order to qualify for any of the above work visas. As for the business visa, this one is usually available for people seeking to do trade in the country with the hopes of making income and also providing employment for the local people.

The other important immigration pre requisite is language proficiency. There are two major languages spoken in Canada with English being the common one. An individual must therefore have a complete command of English. However knowledge of French would be an added advantage to the individual as he can work well in the French speaking provinces in the country.

An individual also must have no previous criminal record when applying for the immigration. Apart from this, he or she should have the necessary finances to support himself in situations that the individual does not find a job once settled in the country. Persons will also be required to prove their capabilities of making an honest living in the country.

It can take a person between 1 to 7years to officially immigrate to Canada. For those persons who will meet all the requirements and have all the necessary documents ready, they can move after a year. Those who will have problems with their documents and not meeting all requirements at one time, it can take them some years to finalize the process.

Since there is a lot of documentation, an individual will require the services of a good immigration lawyer situated in Canada to help with the process of application. This process is difficult even for a very intelligent person. But having such a lawyer will ensure a person meets all the legal requirements and thus improve his or her chances of getting into the country.
