Interesting Michigan State Trivia

If you plan on attending Michigan State University in the future, it is a good idea to know a little bit about this school, which has the ninth largest student body in the United States. Here are a few interesting facts about Michigan State, the home of the Spartans.

Michigan State is the nation's first and oldest college of agriculture and actually was known as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan when its doors opened in 1855. Back then, it was a school for men only and there were fewer than 65 students during the first year. In 1870 it became a co-educational university when a home economics major was added to the curriculum. In 1964, Michigan State University was adopted as its official name.

As MSU is member of the Big Ten, it holds a lengthy and renowned record for the athletics. The football team of MSU is known to have beaten Stanford University in 2014, their most recent achievement in their five participations in the Rose Bowls. And of all these participations, they only lost once which dated way back in 1966 to UCLA. Much pride for their men's basketball is the fact that they have won two of the NCAA championships and NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson has this institution as his alma mater. There are 13 intercollegiate sports for women, and 12 sports for men including hockey, swimming and golf, as well as the aforementioned football and basketball.

With MSU you can choose from about 20 different colleges for a variety of four-year or graduate degrees. although this particular institution is well known for its College of Agriculture and Natural Resources you can also enroll in colleges for engineering, veterinary medicine, human medicine, education, law, nursing or even music and more. Every college can give you different areas of study and help you earn degrees. A good example is you can major in different languages, theater, philosophy, art history, women's studies or more in their College of Arts and Letters.

Being in the campus of MSU you are likely to find that it upholds the importance of social activities hence several groups are open for you. You are sure to find one group or club no matter what you may be interested in. There are the likes of a Quidditch group, a ballroom dance team, a geography club, a geology club, a group for those avid viewers of Doctor Who or any religious-based clubs. Each one is encouraged to find friends and socialize which is why several groups are there for all students to choose from.

If you are a student living in a dorm you can effectively eliminate the tedious task of packing and hauling things for home, come school breaks.
