Saving Money On 4 Carat Diamond Ring Price

By Carl Prescot

A 4 carat diamond ring price can easily cost as much as a brand new top of the range luxury automobile. Depending on the cut, color and clarity an average quality single stone costs anything upwards of $50,000, with a top grade stone being nearer to $100k. The value of metal used to set the stone can add another few thousand dollars to the overall cost.

If you choose a piece with the same total CT but set with several smaller stones, you can save as much as thirty to forty percent on the value of a single stone piece. Smaller good quality diamonds are more readily available which is reflected in the value. Whereas, sourcing a single 4 CT diamond of good quality is rare.

You should also be aware that a single stone will attract higher insurance premiums. In part because the stone is rare and will be more difficult to replace is lost or damaged. Using several smaller stones makes it easier and cheaper to replace or repair if you lose or damage a stone.

When you purchase valuable items, shop around for insurance deals. It is advisable to discuss insurance cover with your broker before, or immediately after making your purchase. Sellers are likely to offer insurance cover for your ring, but is usually more expensive than anything your broker will offer.

Retailers cover their overheads and make a profit from the items they sell. Smaller independent stores have to charge more for an item which you can purchase cheaper from a larger chain store. They buy in bulk and can afford to apply a lower markup to the product.

The internet is a useful resource if you are interested in comparing costs. However, if you are intending to buy from the internet you need to be sure you are buying from a legitimate source. A 4 carat diamond ring price which seems to be a real bargain should start to ring alarm bells as it may not be genuine.
