3 Reasons You Should Never Retire

By Franklin Skribbit

If you are currently in school and looking to study gerontology, then that is very exciting. Gerontology is the study of the social, psychological, and biological aspects of aging.

If there was anyone that should have looked forward to his retirement, it would have been Lee. And yet, he told reporters that he failed. Shortly after retirement, he began looking for other projects to keep him busy. He was bored and had to be doing something; he returned to Chrysler a few times, amongst other things.

This trend tends to follow the hardest working people in the workplace; the ones that are the first in the office and last to leave. These are the people that should want it the most, and yet they can't stand it once they get it. They learned that retirement's not all it's cracked up to be. Health Science tends to agree as well.

Those that attend these assemblies often find that they are able to find context and comfort in the process as they fondly remember the life of the deceased. Often times, memorial services are an opportunity to reminisce and share what made the person special, which brings joy to those in attendance.

Without work, people lose focus on who they are and why they are here. Keeping in the workforce or finding projects throughout retirement will help you keep that mental identity alive.

Older people sometimes feel left out because they cannot understand information as quickly as younger people. So when you are communicating with older people, try to talk slowly and give them time to understand before you continue speaking. They want to understand you, so make sure that you can be understood in a way that works for them. There are several ways that you can make sure that they can understand you.

Make sure that you are talking slowly enough so that they can hear what you're saying and understand the meaning of what you're saying. Another great way to effectively communicate with older people is to avoid distractions.

Not being able to retire seems like a bad thing because the news makes it that way. Retirement is all they can think about.

Headlines bemoan the possibility of the elderly being unable to retire in their lives. They use their words to twist and turn the lack of retirement into a horrible outcome for many people, implying that the elderly can't possibly enjoy the rest of their lives if they have to work their way through it.

It is a combination of all of these factors that makes for a good and remembered memorial service. Every service will be different, based on the life that is being remembered, but still, these factors may all be commonly found in most cases, and the familiarity of the proceedings is enough to bring comfort to many who are in attendance.

What the media is not saying is what you lose when you retire. Health science talks about the risks that come from becoming sentient beings in retirement.

Working with the elderly can be very rewarding. As you study gerontology, remember that you will be helping a lot of people once you graduate from school.
