Mississauga Montessori Schools Are Child Focused

By Marissa Velazquez

In the United States, there is a growing membership of the so called Montessori Mafia among the creative elite according to a WSJ article by Peter Sims. A surprising number of notable people, among them Google founders have this background. They have attributed their original thinking to their early education in this system. There are many mississauga montessori schools in this Ontario region.

Many parents know this innovative method was devised by its founder who opened a school in 1907. It bears the name of this beloved doctor, who was a trendsetter for women as well. She was the first woman to become a physician in her native Italy. Her international reputation was illustrated by her three time nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. This popular but unconventional educational technique was devised from observing the natural learning of children.

Upon close examination it was evident to the educator that children learned through self activated learning. Her institutions arrange classroom settings to enable pupils to acquire knowledge this way. Material is supplied to encourage youngsters to progress through individual development. Some 100 years have passed since the early beginnings of this potent method. All over the world young scholars from babyhood to adolescence access knowledge using this method. Youthful students are encouraged as they mature to learn through self generated improvements. Boredom will not take root in this engrossing process.

The effect early education has on students has proven that this stage is the foundation of subsequent learning. But there is a problem with the increasing popularity of this teaching method. Since it not trademarked or patented, there are schools claiming authenticity without much basis in fact.

They may even incorporate some aspects of this approach and parts of its philosophy. But, on the whole the result is not adequate. The many variations of what is purported to be genuine requires parental homework in advance of selecting a school. Prior to enrollment, parents must find out whether the school is affiliated with a Montessori association. They will have an advantage if understand what type of training prospective teachers have obtained. Observing classes will indicate whether children are getting authentic education. Some key factors to look out for are mentioned below.

The key process should be self guided education. Instructors should be teaching using traditional methods. Their role is to facilitate learning process. They are not providers of information. They only function as guides supporting individualized academic journeys of investigation. Knowledge gained through individual exploration encourages further scholarship. It generates a creative turn of mind. Competition and testing must not be evident. Instructors lay out assignments that support improvements through self guided activities.

Education must be an active exercise. Observing students learn math can be useful. Math knowledge gets absorbed when a tactile method is employed. Numbers are more meaningful as they become tangible. Classes must have multigenerational studying possibilities. One of the foundational tenets of this technique is that younger children learn from guidance provided by older children. Authentic schools will not be separated along conventional grade classifications. Problem solving, socialization and child to child teaching are parts of an interactive process.

World maps must be visibly positioned. They are intended to serve as reminders to students of the global dimension. A strong cultural purpose is an element of this philosophy. It is very important that Mississauga Montessori schools are evaluated thoroughly in the decisionmaking process.
