Since time immemorial, people have always looked for ways in which they can make their items and tools appear attractive or even have an identification mark. Most of them tried to use paintings and other material to try and bring out the marks but they were not so conspicuous and appealing. In addition they faded with time. This practice was mainly carried out on fire arms so as to try and mark them so that each individual can be responsible for his or her gun. Currently a new method has been discovered which is pistol engraving.

Using a common definition, this is a process of putting marks, making color paintings and making small cuts on an object or equipment so as to create a unique and special mark on it. In most cases, the mark is meant to last permanently. Depending on the type of mark, the cost is usually very different. For instance, the cost of using a laser is much higher compared to that of using cheap paintings and drawings.

Engraving is normally done for very many reasons. These reasons tend to vary and diverse. First of all, this can be done so as to indicate the name and brand of the gun. There are usually many brands of guns and their names must be indicated in a manner that is easily visible for recognition by everyone. In most cases, this is normally done by special experts. In most cases laser beams are used because they are usually permanent and easy to use.

Engraving is also done so as to reveal the guns importation number. In most cases, guns used are normally bought from other countries and it is for this reason that this marking has to be done so as to clearly indicate the country of origin. In addition, it also helps in identifying legit and fake guns.

Engraving is one activity that is usually based on two activities with the first one being putting writings on objects with the other involving drawing and embedding graphics on firearms. In most instances, the writings use are usually normal and rarely will you find calligraphy used. The writings are considered to be more formal and normally in upper case letters.

In addition to these writings, drawings can also be made on firearms. Since they are usually for decoration, they are not usually permanent and are mainly done in ink and color which is temporary. The drawings are usually fine artistic work.

However, when this process is being undertaken, a lot of caution has to be taken and it is for this reason that there has to be the intervention of a specialists who can handle the activity. In most cases, engraving should not be done while the gun or firearm is still loaded since it can bring unforeseen disaster.

Pistol engraving has really contributed greatly towards bringing change in the security sector and more so in reducing the rate at which firearms are used illegally.
