A Brief Review Of Wind Energy Equipment

By Marie Jones

When it comes to electricity, there are now many ways in which an individual can acquire this valuable resource. In most cases, individuals still obtain electricity from local power companies. While this is the case, these companies must obtain electricity from some source, whether that be fossil fuels, solar panels, water, or some type of Wind Energy Equipment.

Solar farms, turbines and windmills are often the most common forms of clean energy being used in the United States. While this is the case, there is still a lot of research with regards to other forms. It should be noted that there is nothing clean about clean coal. While rare, there are a number of colleges and universities such as Humboldt State in Arcata, California, which are using various methods of alternative power to power campuses on a daily basis.

When it comes to green energy, solar is often the most well known. While this is the case, many people do not realize that wind is actually part and parcel to solar energy. For, wind is created by the Sun creating irregularities in the earth's atmosphere. During this event, there is a disturbance to the planet's rotation. It is this rotation that creates wind. As such, since the process begins with the Sun, there is a solar connection.

In the process, turbines and windmills can harvest the wind to create mechanical power. It is this power which can be used for a number of operations without electricity. Whereas, if an individual uses a generator, the mechanical power can be converted into electricity.

When a company or individual owns a generator, mechanical power can be converted into electricity. In many cases, large generators can power schools, homes, businesses and casinos. While this is the case, individuals can often create enough electricity that one can sell back extra to the local power company a few times a year for credit. As a result, many of these individuals can eliminate the need to obtain power from local utilities.

While this is the case, these turbines are now classified in two categories. While somewhat different in design than traditional turbines, windmills fall into this category. Whereas, the other being the egg-beater style turbines found on the top of many homes, schools and businesses.

Turbines come in different brands, shapes and sizes. As this is the case, different shapes and sizes generate different volumes of power. Whereas, the largest of these systems being large windmills which can often be seen operating on farms, as well as on private and public lands, especially in Texas. In fact, these systems have now allowed Texas to be rated as one of the most solar friendly states in the United States.

While this type of energy is available in most parts of the world, there needs to be enough speed available for windmills or turbines to harvest the wind required to create mechanical power. As such, it is often advised that prior to purchasing one of these units, purchasers review weather patterns in the area. For, unless there is an average speed of 13 mph, it can often be difficult to harvest enough wind to make this equipment worthwhile.
