An In-depth Understanding On Ozone Sanitation Processes

By Walter Ward

As a matter of fact, ozone is actually a gas consisting of three oxygen atoms and is put to different uses. Some of the common uses include treating bottled water and municipal water, preservative of food especially under cold storage, and also for sanitation. Using Ozone Sanitation processes is based on the fact that the gas acts against a wide range of viruses, protozoa, bacteria, fungi, and biofilms.

This gas has oxidation characteristic or action which makes any element that comes across it unable to resist its sanitization process. The main reason is that destruction through oxidation is more efficient as compared to the use of poisons. Mostly, production of this gas is done by generators on-site. They use electric charges to create it from oxygen atoms.

Afterwards, this gas is channeled into the water for ozonation. The ozonized water can then be used for rinsing, spraying, bathing, or misting as the various forms of sanitation. Nevertheless, the gas usually survives a short period before decomposing back to ordinary oxygen molecules. The process, when used in cleaning remains environment-friendly, and is becoming a preferred disinfectant to chlorine sanitizers across various industries.

With the abilities of ozone-enriched water to effectively kill microbes, it offers a better means of sanitization in that the gas is produced on-site hence eliminating the need for employees to handle, mix, or even dispose of as is the case with other harsh chemicals used in sanitation. In addition, the gas readily degenerates to oxygen hence leaving no residues on the surfaces it comes into contact with.

This hygiene water which is ozone-enriched is used in various methods and techniques. First, the gas that has been premixed can be used as a spray on floors, drains, and walls. It can also be used alongside a wettable tool or equipment. Mobile or centralized units which are either hand-held or drop-down as well as low-pressure sprinklers can be used during the application. Use of this mixture eliminates biofilm accumulation while the overflowing water remains clean.

There are various benefits that come with the reliance on ozone-based sanitation processes. First, the gas offers a powerful oxidizing and disinfecting effect. Actually, it is said that this gas is 200 times stronger than chlorine and effectively destroys organic contaminants, pathogens, and other inorganic elements such as suntan lotions, cosmetics, as well as oils.

The hygiene processes are also considered effective in doing away with resilient microorganisms which may have developed some resistance to chlorine. At the same time, the process is safe and will cause no chemical damages. Equipment, pets, and people are usually not adversely exposed to the intrinsic power of the disinfecting agent. This product will also not irritate the eyes, hair, nails, or skin and never cause damages to fittings, hardscapes, covers, or other equipment.

The use of this processes also saves money. The sterilization process based on this agent is usually cost-effective. This is because there is usually no need for subsequent purchase of chemicals and other costs on dosing as well as storage and management. It can also be used with cold waters which save the water heating costs. Ozone hygiene, therefore, provides a good money-saving alternative.
