The Flag Company Inc And Florida State University

By Albert Frank

Florida State University, colloquially known as Florida State and FSU, is a public research university well-known for its nationally ranked academic programs as well as its competitive men's and women's athletic teams. It is one of the largest and oldest members of the State University System of Florida.

In a 1905 reorganization of Florida’s educational system by the Legislature, six state institutions of higher learning were consolidated into two when the University of Florida in Gainesville was established and designated a men’s school and the Florida State College became a women’s school named the Florida Female College. In 1909 the name of the college was changed to Florida State College for Women; an institution, which grew to become the third largest women’s college in the nation during the 1930’s.

In 1857, it was taken over by the State as one of the seminaries, as a result of an attempt made by the city, under the leadership of Mayor Francis Eppes. In 1858, the school absorbed the Tallahassee Female Academy, founded in 1843, and became a co-educational institute.

The university now awards associate, bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degrees. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. With a total enrollment of over 40,000 students, it has grown to the size of a small city.

In 1905, the state Legislature reorganized Florida's educational system and consolidated six state institutions into two, with the establishment of the University of Florida in Gainesville as men’s college and transformation of Florida State College to Florida Female College. Later, the name of the college was changed to Florida State College for Women, in 1909. Demand by returning World War II veterans had brought men back to the campus, in 1946, when the Tallahassee Branch of the University of Florida was founded.

There is a barrage of cheap and inferior Florida University flags being imported and sold, that do not comply with the flag statute. This is bad for a number of reasons. Imported flags are cheaply made and more importantly, the designs, materials, colors, and methods of printing do not compare well with the better quality, longer-lasting, and correctly designed flags made by American manufacturers. The Flag Company Inc specialized in flag designs offered a special edition of decals and flags to memorize the history of Florida University flag for the future.
