Ways In Which To Access Free Legal Advise In Marion IL

By Amy Roberts

Everybody is subject to numerous laws. In fact, almost every aspect of life is governed by laws. Unfortunately most people do not fully understand all the laws applicable to them and they often do not know what to do and what their rights are when they experience problems related to the law. Lawyers are expensive, however. Thankfully, free legal advise in Marion IL is available from various sources.

Poor people, old people, the homeless and the disenfranchised also have problems, just like all other people. They have disputes with their landlords, they are fired unfairly, they suffer damages due to the negligence of others and they are sued. They cannot deal with these problems without help. Sadly, these unfortunate people are seldom able to obtain justice and this simply because they cannot afford it.

All citizens have certain unalienable rights. One of those rights is the right to an attorney when accused of committing a criminal offence. This right does not apply to civil matters, only when the state prosecutes an individual. Lawyers for those that cannot afford to pay for one are appointed by the state. Unfortunately, most of them have extremely heavy case loads and they cannot spend their full attention on just one case.

Many law faculties at universities training lawyers host clinics where ordinary people can get advice from more advanced law students. They go to shelters, old age homes and social gatherings of senior citizens to see if anyone needs some help. This is not ideal, but many people benefit, especially if their problems are rudimentary. In some cases university authorities will even take on serious cases as case studies.

Big law firms are often under pressure to implement social responsibility programs and many of them actually do offer free representation as part of such programs. In some cases, lawyers undertake to do a certain amount of hours pro bono work every year. Unfortunately it is not always easy to gain access to such a program. A social worker may be able to give valuable advice in this regard.

In some civil cases where the complainant seeks financial compensation some lawyers will take on the case on a commission basis. This means that they will take a percentage of the amount awarded by the court if the case is successful. If the case is lost, the client does not have to pay the lawyer a cent. The lawyer will demand a high percentage, but many people have no other choice.

It is not just lawyers that are able to give good legal advice. Many professionals have intimate knowledge of the laws that relate to their professions. Social workers, for example, are perfectly competent to dispense valid and valuable advice on matters related to children, families and society in general. Their advice is often even better than that of a lawyer because they work with those laws in practice.

It is lamentable that so many people suffer injustices just because they do not have the money to hire lawyers. Much more needs to be done to make justice accessible to all and sundry, especially to those most vulnerable to abuse. One can only hope that social change will become a bigger priority in the future.
