Finding Suitable Student Housing In Eugene OR

By Joseph Kennedy

Most university students will need to leave home to further their studies and this will involve finding accommodation near to their place of learning. Many campuses will have student accommodation blocks but these will often fill up quickly and be unavailable. If you are searching for student housing in Eugene OR there are a couple of things to consider beforehand.

Firstly you will need to calculate your budget and decide what you can afford to pay each month. A simple one bed apartment will be around 600 dollars per calendar month which may include a few basic kitchen appliances and some items of furniture. A three bedroom house with more space will come in at around 1500 but you should bear in mind that the charges for electric and water will be separately billed.

If you are trying to find somewhere to live that is near to your place of study, it can be good idea to have a look at some of the notice boards around your university. Many of these will have business cards or adverts for property that is available in the area. It is also quite useful to speak with other students at your university, or lecturers, to ask for their help and advice.

It will often be quite hard for new students to budget monthly income when away from the family home and many will take on extra jobs to help pay their accommodation costs. A good solution to this problem is to take on a bigger house and share with others who are studying at your university. This is a good option for many as it enables all of the housing costs to be split equally.

When you take on a rental property, is it very important to think about what items you will need when you have moved in. Many of the apartments offered will only be partly furnished so you may have to buy items to make it more comfortable. Also be mindful that as well as the initial months rent, agents will ask for a deposit which will is refunded to you at the end of your tenancy, if there is no damage to the property or its contents.

Some of the large student villages will also have other useful amenities to benefit the students that live there. Study areas with free internet access, libraries and gyms may be available and will be included in your monthly rent payment. Extra paid facilities are also offered and these can include supermarkets, bars and diners.

One benefit of housing complexes is that they are very often close to the universities. Most will be within a short walking distance which can save you a lot of money during your stay as you will not have to pay for transport. A large number of universities will provide a free shuttle bus to certain parts of the neighborhood if there are large numbers of students staying in one area.

One very important thing that you need to consider is the length of tenancy you are going to take. Most agents will offer between a six and twelve month tenancy but some may offer a longer contract. Some long term tenancies can be worth considering and discounts can be obtained if you are paying your years rent in advance.
