Since not every health care professional can handle delivery, the medical experts train certain nurses to be responsible for pregnant women during delivery and correct health problems that the newborns would be having. These nursing professionals provide special care to the newborns and the mothers as well. They are responsible for weighing the body mass of the newborns and taking their body temperatures. Sometimes, babies die during birth due to breathing problems. If a child does not breathe for the first few minutes, its lungs might constrict leading to death. It requires external help where you should breathe in some air in its nostrils. These nursing experts have been trained to respond to such situations. They know what to do and the machines to use so as to salvage the baby.

In case your child is born with feeding problems, the nurses will decide the best feeding pumps and techniques for them. They observe the feeding and sucking behavior of the newborn soon after birth and decide what to do depending on how the child responds. This is important in ensuring that your child feeds even if they will not do it voluntarily.

To ensure that your newborn is healthy, they perform several cardiac tests. They use special cardiac monitors to find out if there is any problem with the heart of the child. In case they notice certain heart problem, they arrange for quick referral to cardiac specialist for treatment.
