Some Facts About Pittsburgh Ballet Theater

Pittsburgh Ballet Theater was founded in 1969, by Mr Nicholas Petrov as the founding artistic director and Mrs. Loti Falk as the founding board chair. The following year PBT offered its first subscription season. Mr. Petrov was an artistic director until 1976, when he stepped down from this function.

PBT became one of the most exciting dancing theaters in the United States. In only few years, their characteristic style and dancing excellence and incredible passion made them so popular that their subscriber base was constantly growing. From their first opening with the famous performance of The Nutcracker, they really came a long way.

Their first dancing school was established back in 1979, with Mr. Patrick Franz as an artistic director and with Mr. Anthony Bryan as a chairman of the board. Popular Intensive Summer program started the next year, and today it is widely appreciated.

In 1982, former principal dancer Mrs. Patricia Wilde was appointed as artistic director. Her clear and precise technique and 32 new works she commissioned during her tenure made her one of the most appreciated artistic directors of this innovative company. She really led them to some new heights and installed extraordinary style as a premise.

With more than fifty performances yearly, PBT is really respectable company. They have launched Schenley program, primarily designed for High school students. Education is their most important interest, and the best proof for this is that great number of their former students perform as leading dancers in numerous respectable theaters.

PBT is a community based company. They can b clearly recognized by their particular technique and clear vision and style. Their innovative approach to teaching created numerous exquisite dancers. Last year they presented their first premiere of A Streetcar Named Desire, and it was absolute success.

Maybe one of the most famous ballets of all times, The Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky, is still equally exciting as it was a long time ago. This extraordinary piece can be seen in February 2014. Emotionally intensive performance and overwhelming music will inevitably transfer you into amazing and wonderful world of motion and elegance that only music can create.

The company organizes different popular events, such as an evening of beer and ballet. The evening presenting two works of famous award winning choreographer Twyla Tharp, featuring Nine Sinatra songs, elevates the glamor of social dancing to another level. Charming and interesting performance you will absolutely love.

Their first and most popular work, the famous Nutcracker, lived for so long. This season, with over 150 dancers and exceptional choreography, it is certainly the most expecting event. Beautiful costumes, dancing excellence and clear technique will surely be appreciated by their loyal audience. All dancers eagerly expect the first opening in December.

In season 2013 to 2014, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater is presenting their favorite part, the Nutcracker. Their fans and admirers will also be able to see their Don Quixote as well as the famous Swan Lake. The theater tours locally and nationally, and also internationally. This includes Canada, Taiwan, California and numerous other countries. People all over the world appreciate the real quality.
