Maryland Arrest Records

By Claire Dowell

In 1970, the Public Information Act of Maryland was sanctioned and residents were given the freedom to view and obtain public records. Despite the fact that certain restrictions were put into place, residents were still thankful because quite a number of public records were kept open for their access. As is the case in many other US states, the Old Line State has certain rules when it comes to access of public records - especially when the ones trying to obtain them belong to the general public. An example of this rule is the fact that Maryland Arrest Records are available only to authorized criminal justice agencies, state and government entities, and employment representatives.

Maryland's Criminal Justice Information System of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is the proper authority to approach if you need your - or another person's - arrest records. The office is the main repository and manages all of the state's criminal records. These records contain information about cases of conviction, as well as those of cases that did not result to a sentencing. As the records are regularly updated, you will not have a hard time looking for the file you need - especially the new ones.

In cases where your employer requests for your Maryland Arrest Records, be sure that you have with you his authorization number as this is the only way your request will be entertained. A state background check is also available if you want one, but you'll have to pay $18 for every fingerprint search. The Administrative Office of the Courts' website also issues criminal records reports.

Of the 23 counties in the Free State, 22 require you to be physically present in some offices when making the request. You will receive your copy of the records, though, by mail. State-level requests may require you to wait for 24 working days before seeing a result, while county-level searches and requests take around three to five working days before it is completed.

Independent online record providers give you better, more efficient services when it comes to public records search. Their comprehensive online database makes it possible for you to find the records you need after only a few minutes. No tiring and complex application procedures to follow; all that you need to do is sign up with a provider and then enter the record information (I.e. name of arrested person and date of arrest) on the search box. You'll get your records without having to wait for days (and even hours)!

Aside from being the efficient alternative, online record providers are also the most practical choice. The minimal fee that you need to pay will be a one-time thing, which means you don't have to keep reaching into your pockets every time you need to obtain copies of Arrest records in Maryland. In fact, in exchange for the one-time fee, you'll get unlimited access to every public record you need - or might need in the future. It's the most efficient and practical solution there is!
